Hosted License Virtual Server
Floating licenses on a license server can also be software based. This is usually more convenient for virtual servers that do not have a USB port. For stand-alone software based is not advised, since the license is bound to a single PC and not easy to transfer.
Again if this server has no USB port then the dongle can be attached to a USB anywhere hub that can be configured in the network.
 
Alternatively we can also supply software based licenses that work in a similar way as the Wibu dongled licenses. These can also be placed on a virtual server. The license is stored in an encrypted file on the server and uses hardware properties of the underlying hardware so that it cannot be copied to multiply licenses. The drawback is that this is less flexible in transferring the license to other hardware and the license can become broken or lost if the virtual machine is deleted or copied. 
As of CodeMeterRuntime 6.9 the software based licenses also supports Azure environments.
